My 5-week Update

Well....my FIVE WEEK testing last Saturday went very very well. I have been going to Farrell's now for 5 weeks....and listen to this...

...Five weeks ago I could only do 15 push-ups in one minute...after 5 weeks....38!!!!

...Five weeks ago we had to run one mile...after 5 weeks...I shaved ONE MINUTE AND 43 SECONDS off of my run time!!

I didn't realize that I had made such amazing progress until my coach Erin sent me an email!!! OMG!!! I never thought I could be this strong! And you know what comes with strength...confidence, independence and most importantly SELF-ESTEEM!
What an amazing feeling!
Thank you Erin...Dave...Mark (even though when you teach class I am convinced you are trying to kill me!! LOL!!!!)...and my team mates...GO TEAM SWEAXY!!! (Sweet, Sweaty ans Sexy)

And I still have 5 weeks left to go! I may have to change my class time to accommodate new work hours...but that's another great thing...classes in the mornings AND evenings!

I am so glad I am getting FXB'ed!!! Call and get your butt in the next class.....you will not regret it....I promise!!

Week 5

Heading in to week 5 of my FXB Transformation....and just Saturday I had a listener tell me "it won't take 10 weeks for you to look different - you already do". AWESOME1 I will say this...there was a fabulous jean sale at Old Navy the other day....headed right over and BOUGHT A SMALLER SIZE!!!!
Ladies...you know that is an exciting day...when you can A). Find jeans that fit and B). Buy a size smaller than you used to buy!!

It's ALL because of Farrell's eXtreme Bodyshaping! I know I am stronger and I know I am getting smaller! And this week I KNOW that I will be able to run a mile and take some time off of my last time! I barely ran last time...and I was so weak...now I am strong and confident! And it's only been 5 weeks! 5 more to go....if I feel THIS great now...I can't wait to see what the next 5 weeks bring!

It's taken me this long to confess....I missed three classes last week (pesky work got in the way-grrrr!)
And boy oh boy am I feelin it today!! I made all my classes so far this week and my butt has officially been kicked!!!

Here's what I love though...at Farrell's, my coach Erin is in constant contact with the "team"...reminding us that we are all doing a great job and even monitoring our food to make sure everyone is eating correctly to get the maximum experience out of FXB.

I NEED that! I need to be accountable to someone...otherwise I will sit on my couch and think of a million reasons why I simply "can't" get to the gym...it's too late in the day, I'm too tired....the sky is TOO blue...you see what I'm saying. I know now that I have a team...and everyone on the team is at Farrell's and I should be too! By the way official team name is TEAM SWEAXY (Sweet, Sweaty and Sexy) Cute, right??!?!?!

There is time to sign up for the next class or just get the info and prep yourself...I guarantee that you won't be disappointed! In fact...in 10 weeks you will be amazed at your results...I'm only in the end of week 3 and already am sleeping better, am more flexible (not so many groans when I get up...except for the muscle soreness after Mark or Dave kicks our butts in class - but THAT's a good groan!)...and the best part...the kickboxing has improved my mood...maybe because it's SO easy to picture the people that irked me that day right there on the front of that punching bag!! WHAM!!! whew....I feel so much better....Hope to see you in class...and NOT of the surface of my punching bag!!! LOL!!!!

Week 1 Down and Now in the midst of Week 2

If I haven't done it yet...I would just like to take a minute to express how hooked I am on FXB!! I didn't think it would happen...believe me after the first few days of soreness in my body...I thought there is no way I am going to make it....but low and behold...I am now in my 2nd week...and I love it! I tease my coach Erin...and Dave, Jenny and Mark...that they are all evil...but evil in a good way!! They are whooping my butt into shape! And by the way...if you picture someone who ticked you off...picture their face right on the bag on kickboxing day...relieves sooooo much stress!!! Not that I'm encouraging you to knock someone out...but everyone can daydream a little can't they??!!??!! :)

Here's my first little success story...I had a family reunion over the weekend at my uncle's house. My uncle has a few horses and I thought, "...well that would be fun...maybe I'll get to ride. Wait...I will never get my fat butt up on that horse....maybe he has the little steps to help....".
As I am standing there looking at just how high that stirrup was...I thought...no way...but I have to try it without the steps! So, I stuck my foot in the stirrup...swung my leg over and just like that I was on the horse (the horse doesn't have a name yet, otherwise I wouldn't keep calling him "the horse"...but that story is for another day). I was so impressed with how easy it was to get up there...and I KNOW that it's because I am my flexible, lighter and let's face it...getting on the horse is kind of like doing a "roundhouse" kick! Thank you FXB!!!!!

It may seem silly...but believe me...I feel better, my clothes are fitting better...and I'm actually in a better mood. I think it's because I am actually relieving some stress everyday...and the best part...it's only 6 days a week...on the 7th day...eat whatever you want...and no workout...shoot...even I can commit to something 6 days a week as long as I know there's a giant pizza waiting for me on the 7th day!!!

Day THREE

Ok...so I now have 2 days at Farrell's under my belt (so to speak)...Let me just give you a little recap of what I have done over the past two days:
Monday...first night of kick boxing...I learned how to wrap my wrists and actually put on my boxing gloves for the very first time! They look like giant pillows on my hands...but I am convinced that by the end of 10 weeks...I am going to be a kickboxing master!! And how about this...Jenny, the instructor...totally kicked our butts!!! She's one tough cookie. I thought for sure I wouldn't make it....but after the class...I actually felt better!! So...I decided Night two was a MUST....
Last night was our upper body workout...using resistance bands (who would have thought that bigg rubber bands would be so tough)!!

We worked every muscle in our upper bodies...my goal is to upgrade from beginner yellow to a tougher band in the first 5 weeks....wish me luck!

Night 3 is tonight....more kick boxing...I can't wait...it really does relieve a lot of stress and what better way to get rid of it thatn beating the crap out of a bag!!

Evaluation

So I went to my evaluation on Saturday at Farrell's. You never really realize just how out of shape you really are until you are asked how many puch ups can you do? How many sit ups? And the worst of all thing to discover...is just how hard it is to run a mile outside!!! By the way in case you are wondering...if you lap Costco's parking lot THREE times...it's a mile!! And it took me such a long time...I walked most of the way! But I have faith that when I am asked to do it again in 5 weeks...I will be much better....and at the end of 10 weeks...a rockstar!!!

I am also happy to say that I am now the proud owner of boxing gloves....I'm not sure what to do with them yet...but again...in 10 weeks...I know I will know what to do!! I am so ready to get my butt kicked into shape!! Woot woot!! 10 weeks to transformation! It begins with the first class tonight....

Ok....so it's official! I am signed up and ready to go....clases start on Saturday morning! And I know this may sound silly, but as I am standing at the counter filling out my forms....Dave and a client went out for their "run"...OUTSIDE!! I know this is silly...but I always wanted to run outside (without the obvious crazed lunatic chasing me...like a bad "B" movie). Runners always look so happy...but have you ever seen a round girl run?? hahaha NOT pretty....not to mention I don't even know HOW to run...am I breathing right? Am I stepping right? Arrrghhhh I NEED someone to tell me these things! ENTER Farrell's eXtreme Body Shaping....da da da da...they are going to transform me in 10 weeks with a combination of resistance trainging and kick boxing....and running...SUH-weet!!!

Here's what I did this weekend...

Ugh...before the project...

OK...so there's a whole story that goes behind this. Last summer it was HOT! You remember...HOT HOT HOT!! So I bought a pool! Yep, the big redneck kind with the metal frame and blue vinyl sides....I put it up in the backyard...NEVER swam in it...not even once (it was too cold)! I took great care of it, cleaned it, put the chemicals in it...everything! But I did put it on slightly uneven ground. So not only was it too cold, but I was terrified that it would collapse!So when the end of summer rolled around...I drained it and yep...wouldn't you know it...the stupid pool and all of that water with chemicals KILLED MY GRASS! I thought it would grow back this year! HA! Fat chance! So...instead of looking and walking on creepy looking dirt (I think the pool chemicals started their own gene pool in my dirt!) Gross...I had the bright idea to put a patio on top of it! A piece of advice...if it looks easy...it is NOT! Spouse Greg carried more sand and bricks than ANY human should ever have to!! I won't bore you with the details...but here is the before and after of our beautiful patio! (Which is where I am right this very minute - wireless is a beautiful thing!) Thank goodness it's over...my body is killing me...but man oh man...there is nothing better than spending a cool summer evening on the patio in beautiful Colorado Springs! What a great life! (By the way...that's my dog Hula Hoop in the picture!)

Fresh off the Chesney Show

So I went to Cheyenne Frontier Days this past weekend for the Kenny Chesney Show...and can I just say...AMAZING! But here is my question...why do we insist on taking pictures of ourselves. Everyone does it...you know you have! I saw people doing it all over the concert...pressing their heads together, lifting up the camera and trying to get both faces in the shot...failing and retaking it over and over until it's right... It's a phenomenon or something! I felt like grabbing the camera and offering to just take the picture for them...
And then it happened...I grabbed a camera alright...MY OWN and stuck it in the air....pressed my head next to my friend Annette's and POW....just like that we had a picture of ourselves!! Seriously...I ask you why??????? aaarrrghhhh!!

County Fair!!

The El Paso County Fair is officially underway!! I had the honor of judging the "bucket calf" competition on Saturday afternoon. I know, I know...what the heck is the bucket calf competition?? I will tell you this...no buckets are involved!!
Kids 7 years old and under show their calves that are 120 days old or younger. Baby cows!!! Awwww.....so sweet!
I had a terrible time trying to judge them...and who wants to pass judgement..really?? So there was an 8 way tie for first! Yay!!!
On the downside...as I was judging and trying to look like I actually knew what the heck I was doing (a big thank you to Ralph - cattle man extraordinaire and Danya - the El Paso County Fair Queen...walked me through the whole process)...As I was walking along...stepped right in fresh baby cow poo....yep!!! Welcome to the County Fair!!!

We're getting ready for the Pikes Peak of Bust Rodeo and the Range Riders are off and running tomorrow morning. It's only $5 and it goes to local military charities...it's always been that way for the rodeo and always will be that way! So grab the family and come downtown, sit on a hay bale, eat some eggs and pancakes served by Fort Carson's finest...it all starts at 5:30 a.m....We'll be there...Cutter and me! King Mountain Ranch

Fresh off of "dude ranchin'"!!! Went to King Mountain Ranch with our "Cowboy U" winner Tiffany and her husband Mike. (Pics are up on the Cat Country website!) What a great time! If you ever have the chance to head up to King Mountain Ranch near Granby, I highly suggest that you do! Absolutely beautiful and one of the best vacations I think I have had. We were so busy doing all of the fun things that the ranch has to offer that the time flew by!

We had a full day yesterday...Started out with breakfast...then to roping lessons. Thanks to Dave for teaching us how! Then we went on a two hour horse ride...I had a fantastic horse named Chud. He was such a sweet boy!

After the ride we took a break for lunch...then headed out to shoot .22's...then up on the hill "skeet shooting"...outstanding. Paul is the most patient person I have ever met! I had never fired a gun before...'nuff said!

Another trail raid on horseback for a couple of hours...then dinner...and finally...team penning! I actually rode on horseback and penned a cow!! I never ever thought I would have done that! What a great time!! Take some time to check out the website http://www.kingmountainranch.com/

If you are not familiar with CCR (I know that's the abbreviation for Creedance Clearwater Revival too...but I refuse to type Cross Canadian Ragweed over and over....so from here on out - at least in MY blog - they are CCR!) Anyways....if you are not familiar with CCR, may I recommend you go to the nearest CD retailer or iTunes and get yourself some CCR!! Aaaarrrrghghhhhhhhh I hate Rose Bushes!!!

Okay...maybe I don't HATE them...Hate is a pretty strong word! But I decided today that it was time to clean out the tree/flower...whatever area in the backyard. With all of the rain we've had lately...it was starting to look like the jungle! So I trimmed the trees...cleared the weeds and discovered that we have rose buses that have vines that are...and I'm not kidding...at least 10 feet long! So the big "wrap around" began. They are now wound around the top of our fence...but in the meantime....I was ATTACKED! tangled in 12 inch thorns...unable to escape. OK...maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but I really did have to have Spouse Greg untangle me from the branches! Ridiculous.

I also took the time to plant a garden today. I may have started too late...but we'll see what happens. I will be happy if I get one tomato, one cucumber and maybe one jalapeno....is that too much to ask. I hope that I get something!

I am open to suggestions....because we all know...I need all the help I can get!!

And as a final note...coolest thing ever...I put 2000 ladybugs in my tree/flower/and now garden area! It was so cool...opened the package and they all spread up my arms...had to brush them off in to the leaves...bugs usually freak me out...but no ladybugs...still a beetle...but they are prettier than the average beetle!!

Territory Days is officially in the record books as quite possibly the wettest T-Days ever! But it was still great! I had the opportunity to meet so many of you...our loyal listeners! We were set up right next to Cucuro at 24th and Colorado! A big thanks to our friend Beth and Guillermo and Steven for the indoor bathroom privileges!
We had such a great time! Springspree rolls around next month, which will be here before we know and it summer is underway baby!! Time to break out the shorts and flip flops....and the aaaggghhhhhh winter white legs!! Maybe a spray on tan should be my next adventure....

I am not sure what I will do. I work all of the time!! But after 4 days at Wild Wild West Fest and gearing up for Territory Days...sometimes a girl just needs to decompress!!

Wild Wild West Fest was an amazing time....major props to Kody Lostroh for hanging out with us over the course of the festival! What a great bull rider and an even nicer guy!!
We are so proud to be the official station of the PBR!!

Territory Days comes up this weekend and we are bringing in Trent Tomlinson on Sunday and Eli Young Band on Monday! Both are going to be outstanding shows! Cat Country will be set up right on the corner of Bancroft Park...make sure you come by and say HI! I'll be the one standing directly in the sun trying to get a little color to my pasty white skin!

I'm taking the day off...but I will tell you that this is my favorite time of the year! I love summer in Colorado Springs...so much to do...please summer don't slip by too fast!!!

Elements Massage

Oh man oh man oh man....I went this afternoon and had a fantastic massage at Elements Therapeutic Massage Carefree and Powers...right by Super Target! My therapist was Shelly and I gotta say...I was a little tense before I went in...and after an hour...stress and tension gone! Amazing!
I will say this, Shelly, has recommended that I see her every other week...and I know she is right! There are some days when I really believe that my shoulders are up to my ears with tension. Not any more!!!
Elements Therapeutic Massage just had their Grand Opening Celebration last weekend...so serene, so peaceful and by far the best experience I have had in a long time.

Why...Does the weekend go by so fast! I leave work on Friday, go to Elements Therapeutic Massage on Saturday morning for a live "broadcat" (because it was their big Grand Opening Celebration!!)...and before I know it...bang! It's Sunday evening. And for those of you who live in the same world that I do...getting up at the crack of dark!...you know that Sunday evening means it's almost time to go to bed! Bummer!

So...I am now officially getting my teeth whitened!! Yippee!! And I'm talking "Rock Star White"...

I went in to see Dr. Andrew Hall and Sandy at The Studio for Exceptional Dentistry on Monday for my conditioning appointment. Can I just say that it really makes all of the difference in the world when you actually like your dentist and when you are comfortable in the office! And the office is spectacular!So I sat in the dental chair for a couple of hours getting my teeth conditioned...by the way...got to watch The Dark Knight the whole time I was there! Awesome! TV down from the ceiling...headphones on my head...all I was missing was a warm blankie (which was offered to me) and my favorite slippers and I could have taken a nap! A nap!! At the dentist's office! Can you imagine...

I have now officially been sleeping with my whitening trays in for two nights...and I think my teeth are getting whiter! I find it a little strange that I sleep with them in, but it is better, because if you have ever had whitening done...then you know how it feels sometimes when you get little "zing" in your teeth...it's NOT fun...THIS way I'm asleep...and wake up...bling bling beautiful white! I am going to post my before and after pictures in about two weeks...so check back...but in the meantime...check out Dr. Andrew Hall HERE. Facebook Frustration!!

So imagine my surprise when I was "un-friended" on Facebook!! What is THAT about. I had no idea you could even do that.

It made me think back to junior high...even grade school...when the worst words you could ever imagine your friend saying to you was "Oh yeah...well I'm not going to be your friend anymore".

That's basically was what was said to me on FB...it kind of gave me a complex...I am still not sure what to think. As an adult, can't you just tell me that I made you mad...or that you no longer wish to be my friend...I feel like I got a big ole facebook raspberry....and a neener-neener!! "I'm not going to be your friend anymore"!!! Really???....

I don't know if I should even do anything about it...why bother? I know what I have to do though...Thank my friend Kelly...because in the true spirit of "junior high"-ness, she so eloquently offered to help me TP their house!!!

I think I'm going to take her up on it....just as soon as I roll up my jeans and spray my hair with Aqua Net!!

Saint Patty's Day

First of all I want to thank everyone for coming out to the St. Patty's Day Parade this weekend. We had such a blast!! One thing I realized is that our "web-guru" and weekend warrior J-Rod...is a freak when it comes to mascots! He loves them...and I love that he loves them because every time that he is around and a mascot is in the area, J-Rod jumps (literally) for joy. It's hilarious! Back To The Morning Show

It's true...I am officially back on the Cat Country Morning Show!! I am so excited to be back in the mornings...and I love working with Jim West! He's a little out of control though! But he makes me laugh...and ultimately isn't that what it's all about. Making someone laugh...and I'm talking about the "make your belly hurt" kind of laugh.

Jim had one of the best theories about our show this morning...He said, "We're not trying to be funny...We're just trying to have fun!" And friends...THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

I hope that you will join us each and every morning from 5:30am - 9:00am...and then stick around for 95 in a row!! I GOT A TATTOO!!!!!

Oh My...I did it! I went and got a new tattoo yesterday. Truth be told I always wanted one on my wrist...but was a little chicken to do it. Well...yesterday I took the plunge!

As fate would have it...someone I know referred me to "RU TATTOOED" on Montebello and Academy...my friend...who is fondly known as "Trashcan" to his closest friends...sent me to see "Tat2 Bee". I'll just call him "Bee" from here on out..."Bee" was absolutely amazing! I went in with an idea and he turned it into reality!! And it really didn't hurt as much as I thought it would...ok...it hurt a little...but that is some tender skin on the inside of your wrist!!! youch!!

I decided to go with my new "personal mantra"...two simple words...NEVER SETTLE...It started as two simple words and "Bee" transformed it into something beautiful...something that I am proud to wear on my skin...something that I will show to anyone and everyone who asks to see it...shoot...I'll even show you if you don't ask...tee hee!

Never Settle...I am starting to believe that we should all live that way. Never Settle for second best...Never Settle for something you don't believe in...and Never Settle for anything less than everything! Okay...so I stole that last line from Sugarland...but that doesn't mean that I don't mean it!!

And listen to this... here's the best part...THEY LISTEN TO CAT COUNTRY ALL OF THE TIME..so picture this...here I am sitting in the chair listening to "Bee", Daniel and Junior...all singing along to Carrie Underwood, George Strait and Kenny Chesney! Talk about putting my mind at ease...whew!!

I took my Mom with me...she had never seen anyone get a tattoo or even been in a place that does tattoo's...she was a little nervous...maybe more than I was...but after about 10 minutes...she was laughing and singing along with the boys! It was great! And I guess I have to apologize to Daniel personally, because he realized yesterday that the Sugarland song "Stay" was written from the "other woman's" perspective...not the wife's...I think I may have damaged him for life...Daniel I'm sorry...but their new song "It Happens" is great...give it a listen I know you'll be back on the Sugarland "fan-wagon" in no time!

Yesterday when I left R U Tattooed...I knew I had to blog about this...after all...the new ink I got yesterday...is now a part of me...physically and mentally...forever. And I thought you might like to know that...

I admit it...I love Paula Deen. I watch her shows, buy her cook books and even try to make recipes out of those cookbooks (gasp!) Sometimes they don't turn out quite like they look on TV or in the book (double gasp!). Go figure...the time has come to admit...I can't cook like Paula Deen...I'm crushed. BUT...I refuse to give up...so I am going to try to make these tomorrow:

Paula Deen's White Chocolate Cherry Chunkies

Ingredients:

1 stick(s) (8 Tbsp. unsalted) butter, softened
1 cup(s) (packed) brown sugar
1 cup(s) (granulated) sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
3 cup(s) flour
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
2 tablespoon(s) milk
1 cup(s) (chopped) macadamia nuts
1/2 cup(s) (candied ) cherries, roughly chopped
1 1/2 cup(s) white chocolate chunks or chips

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Grease a large cookie sheet and set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, with electric mixer, cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, and beat until just combined. Set aside.
3. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt in separate bowl. With mixer on low speed, add milk to the butter mixture, then add the flour mixture. Beat until just combined (batter should be stiff).
4. In another bowl, combine nuts, cherries and white chocolate chunks. Stir into batter with wooden spoon just until blended. Drop cookie dough by heaping tablespoons onto prepared cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 11 to 13 minutes, or until golden, then transfer cookies to wire rack to cool.

Rubber Bands
1. Open jars with ease. When a small lid won't budge, wrap a rubber band around it several times to give you a better grip.
2. Decorate Easter eggs. Arrange rubber bands in a pattern around hard-boiled eggs, then dip them into dye. Remove the bands when the eggs are dry.
3. Bring order to your dishwasher. Tether stemware and other delicate, wobbly items to the rack.
4. Wrap a gift. Use multiple colored rubber bands instead of ribbon to add modern flair to a small present. (Particularly handy when you can't find the tape.)

Toothpicks
5. Label meat. Are these burgers rare or well-done? They all look the same on the outside. Identify just-off-the-grill meats with different-colored toothpicks and they won't get mixed up.
6. Find the end of the roll. When you've finished using tape, wrap the end around a toothpick so you can easily locate it the next time.
7. Glue beads and sequins. Use the sharp ends to apply teensy items to a craft project.
8. Sew a better button. Place a toothpick between the button and fabric so it doesn't go on too tightly and end up tough to fasten.
9. Press a gadget's Reset button. What fits perfectly into that tiny hole? You guessed it.

Salt
10. Clean up a cracked egg. Cover the mess with a handful of salt, then wipe up with ease.
11. Dust a wreath. Place a wreath of pinecones or faux evergreen in a paper bag with a 1/4 cup of salt. Fold the top of the bag over and gently shake.
12. Remove tea stains. Sprinkle salt on a lemon peel, then rub it on a tea-stained cup. (Arched pinky optional.)
13. Shine brass and copper. Make a paste of a few tablespoons of white vinegar with equal parts salt and flour. Apply with a soft cloth, rinse, and dry.

Post-It Note
14. Clean a keyboard. Run the sticky side between the keys to collect crumbs and bits of lint.
15. Navigate the roads. Write directions on a note and stick it to the center of your steering wheel for quick reference.
16. Mark containers. Cut off the sticky zone and use it as an ersatz label for travel bottles so you don't confuse your facial cleanser with your hair gel.
17. File away. Divide a pile of paper into sections using Post-it Notes as you would folder tabs.
18. Play tic-tac-toe. Use a sheet for each X and O. Peel them up and play again until they lose their stickiness. (Or you lose interest. Whichever comes first.)

Felt Circles
19. Secure slinky garments. Stick a felt circle onto each arm of a hanger to keep clothes from sliding off.
20. Anchor a cutting board. Place a circle under each corner of the board so it stays put while you slice and dice.
21. Prevent tabletop scratches. Attach a circle to the bottom of a vase so it doesn't scuff surfaces. 22. Keep your kitchen quiet. Hush a banging cabinet door by sticking a circle on a corner on the inside of the door.
23. Protect the walls. Position felt on each corner of a picture frame so the edges won't mark the paintwork.

Clear Nail Polish
24. Keep an eyeglass screw in place. If your specs are a bit wobbly, tighten the screws and top them with a dollop of polish.
25. Secure buttons. Apply a thin layer of polish to the center of a button to keep the thread from coming loose.
26. Avoid rust stains in the bathroom. Coat the bottom of a shaving-cream can to fend off rings on the ledge of the tub.
27. Seal an envelope. When a flap won't stay stuck, find closure with clear polish.
28. Extend the life of jewelry. Paint a thin coat onto a costume bauble to prevent it from losing its luster.

Etch-A-Sketch

I was in the Super Target on Powers and Carefree last night and I thought I would take a stroll through the toy section...I had once again lost Spouse Greg to Jack Bauer and "24"...and okay...I admit it...I like to color...THERE I said it! I own crayons and coloring books because I really feel like it's a great stress reliever...ANYWAYS...I came across an Etch-A-Sketch...I picked it up and managed to write my name in the fantastic square letters that look SOOOO great. I never really mastered the art of using both knobs and rounding the lines....that skill somehow escaped me in my youth. But the whole experience got me thinking....WHO does know how to use these things?? Well...turns out...there ARE people with CRAZY Etch-A-Sketch Skills. Take a look at this... AMAZING!!! Tax Time Deductions?????

So you know that Tax Time is coming. And as a dog owner (4 of them!!) I always thought how great it would be if I could just deduct some of their medical expenses or toys...ya right...dream on!! But one of my biggest fears is that I will get audited. Not that I do anything funny...in fact I have people do them for me...but I am so intimidated by the IRS...they scare me!! I was reading online today about tax time and thought I would pass along part of the article to you...because I foud it hilaruious!!! We all love our pets. But they really don't qualify as our dependents regardless of how much we spend on their upkeep.
Literally millions of dependents disappeared when the IRS demanded Social Security numbers for all claimed dependents.
That means that you not only lose the personal exemption for the pet, but the medical deduction for the veterinary bills as well. Sorry about that. Well, if I can't claim them as dependents, perhaps I can get them to pay my tax bill with their charge cards. Both my dog and my cat have had Visa and MasterCard credit cards in their own names, sent by banks eager to add Frisco T.D. Schnepper and Fred T.C. Schnepper to their rolls. (T.D. is "the dog" and T.C. is "the cat.")...

For the first time in the history of the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR), fans will have the chance to vote for two of the five recipients of the 2009 Ring of Honor. The nominated riders must be retired and the two nominees who receive the highest amount of fan votes will be reviewed by the Ring of Honor Committee. Once approved, they will take their place among the elite members of the PBR Ring of Honor.
In addition, writers for publications such as USA Today, The Dallas Morning News, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram will cast their vote and the rider with the highest tally of votes will be a 2009 inductee after Committee approval. Once again, the rider must be retired to qualify for a nomination. To be eligible to nominate an honoree, the writer must have written at least three stories on the PBR in 2008. The Ring of Honor Committee will decide on the final two riders who will take their place in the prestigious “Ring.”
Created in 1996, the Ring of Honor is more than just a physical ring---it is an elite group of 27 cowboys, soon to be 32. Almost Famous...

I think one of the greatest movies ever made is Almost Famous. It seems to come on about once or twice a month. Which is just about the right amount of time in between showings to make me want to watch it again. After all...I think we all secretly want to be rock stars...or is that just me? The fame, the money and all the craziness that seems to go along with it. It seems like rock stars (country stars included) have the great lives. Is THAT profession recession proof? It seems that if you're good...you're good. Everyone will still pay to see their favorite artists. One thing that bothers me from time to time is that some of them let it go to their head. Country artists don't seem to go that route thought. They still seem to be the most accessible and the most down to earth people that I have met. Sometimes when you meet someone famous, it's a big let down...because they turn out to be jerks. I haven't had that experience with any country artists...and I hope that I never do.

So I have to admit I am currently sucked in to American Idol. I'm hoping that we see another Carrie Underwood come out of this season. I have to say that these folk that sing on the audition show have soooo much more "moxie" than I have ever had. I can't sing and I know I can't sing. I would never never never get on national TV and pretend I could...Moxie!!!!

It's Sunday evening and I have lost my husband to Jack Bauer. Spouse Greg (along with both my mom and my dad) are obsessed with watching "24". Do you have it too? Am I the only one who doesn't watch this show?? I'm trying right now, really I am!! But Jack yells All of the time! And does he never eat...when does he stop by the "little boys room"...I know it's in 24 hour increments...but when was the last time you went 24 hours with no food no water and no sleep and were still able to run and jump and pulls guns on people. Amazing!! Maybe Jack Bauer should be my new hero...because he seems to be everyone else's.

Here's what my house looks like RIGHT NOW....sad....That's Spouse Greg on the couch with three of my four dogs...Brady(Beagle) Molly (Red Bassett) and Poodie ( The black and white dog that looks like she's dead) Don't worry...SHE's NOT!!!

I don't know about you, but things in my closet get out of control pretty quickly. But I found these simple tips will allow you the room you need to keep your closet filled with the most up-to-date styles without overflowing!

1. First thing's first: Go through your coats, clothes, and shoes to weed out things you don't wear anymore. You know the drill: If you haven't worn it in more than a year, or if it doesn't fit you anymore, it goes. Separate the items into boxes to give away to charity, recycle, or toss.

2. Use all the space available to you. Install a second closet rod. If you don't want to go permanent, use a tension rod. Install the second rod halfway between the floor of your closet and the existing closet rod. Hang skirts and pants there. Longer items (dresses, cardigans) stay on top.

3. If they aren't there already, install shelves above your existing closet rod. This is the perfect place to keep shoes (use plastic shoe boxes — they stack neatly and keep shoes nicer, longer).

4. Use the space on the back of your closet door. You can get an over-the-door rack on which to hang belts and bags; an over-the-door shoe cubby to organize shoes; install hooks for robes and jackets; or put up a full-length mirror for a head-to-toe check before you leave the house.

5. If your closet is big enough, stash a small plastic or wooden set of drawers in there. In the drawers, keep accessories, socks, or other miscellany like gift wrap and bows, or sewing needles and thread.

6. Use multiple-tiered hangers to hang twice as much in the same space.

7. Something you may not consider a space-hogger are regular, everyday hangers. But if you think about it, those plastic hangers are usually twice the width they need to be. Use slim-width hangers and watch your closet space magically expand.

8. Stash seasonal items in under-the-bed rolling bins. That way they are protected while not in use, and when you peek into your closet, you can actually see what's in there.

And if all else fails...if you're married like me...kick the hubby out of the closet, make him move his stuff to a spare closet (like the coat closet..tee hee) and BINGO - you've doubled YOUR closet space!! Poor poor, Spouse Greg!!!

Yippee!! This is the time of year when I take my annual "Holiday Break"...so I won't be back until January 5th! I hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year! It's a magical time of year and no matter how much your relatives annoy you...try to remember...most of them only visit once a year. So nod your head and smile and know that it will be over before you know it! So try to enjoy!! Happy Holidays everyone! In the meantime...think about this...

Here's my question...as I sit here watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on TV...WHY oh WHY did the person that remade the movie make all of the Oompa Loompa's look the same? I liked seeing all of the faces of the Oompa's i n the original...Like these guys...

Why would I want to see the same creepy guy digitally repeated over and over...even the lady oompa's look alike!! It's strange and I gotta say...a little creepy...I mean LOOK at them...

So I encourage you to watch both versions...because they inevitably are BOTH on at least once a week SOMEWHERE on cable...and then tell me what you think!

WHY WORK IS LIKE PEANUT BUTTER

Feel like you always fall out of love with your jobs? Does this sound familiar?
"In the beginning, I couldn't wait to get to the office. I loved the company, my boss, my peers and my job. Then, the excitement started to go away and I realized that it was all in my mind. The job I fell in love with is just like every other job I've had: It's repetitive, tedious and long. I end up feeling like a failure because I can't find a job that makes me happy."
If you can relate to this scenario, let me share a secret: Work is like peanut butter.

Phase one: The introduction
Think back to when you were first introduced to peanut butter. You were most likely a kid, who had tasted only healthy foods that were dull but good for you, like fruits, veggies, toast and crackers.
One day, someone put a sandwich in front of you and said, "Try this." You took a bite and your taste buds went nuts for the sweet candylike treat that was easy to chew and full of yummy flavor. Your little brain probably said, "Is this a mistake? Do they know what I'm eating?" At which point, you immediately thought, "I better show them I like this," and you wolfed it down.
The same thing happens when you go on an interview and like what you see and hear. Your brain gets really excited with the possibility of something new and delicious entering your life on a regular basis. You do whatever it takes to land the job, and then you celebrate like a 4-year-old when you get the offer letter. But let's return to our story.
The grown-up who gave you the sandwich is so impressed with the way you devoured it, you're told you can have it again. You opt to have it every day. If you could, you'd eat it for breakfast, lunch AND dinner.

Phase two: Boredom sets in
One day, you realize that peanut butter is a bit boring. It doesn't have the same appeal it did when you first tasted it, but now, it's been added to the "healthy foods" list and you're told you HAVE to eat it. The very thing that you were craving just a few weeks earlier is now something you loathe. You're given some new variations -- jelly, Fluff, no-crust, on celery with raisins. The presentation is altered, but it doesn't change the fact that you are really tired of peanut butter.
The same thing happens when you realize that your job is actually work; it's something you must do. You've agreed to do the job, so you need to show up and complete the work, whether you feel like it or not.
You try to liven up the job by taking on different assignments or learning a new skill, but it still doesn't change the fact that you must do this job. Perhaps you call in sick for a mental health day or plan a vacation. Yet, you still have to return to the job at some point. So how do you fix your aversion to work? Let's see how the peanut butter story turns out.

Phase three: Hatred is evident
You became so sick of peanut butter that you announce, "I hate peanut butter." You are given some other foods to try. First, you get liverwurst. You gag and ask for carrots. The next day, you get tuna; you won't even try it. On the third day, you are offered egg salad. You immediately ask to go to your room and skip eating altogether.

Phase four: Pleased to see you again
On the fourth day, peanut butter is set down in front of you, and you are actually pleased. There is your trusted friend, the food you can count on to appease your hunger without making you nauseous. You eat it and think, "Ahh, peanut butter, you are not so bad." You go on to develop a strong bond with a food that you know is not ideal, but reliable. You accept it for what it is and what it can do for you. You are satisfied.
Work is no different. You could go to your boss and let her know you are looking to feel more challenged but, if you can't be specific as to what you need and what you want to do, you'll most likely be given more work that you don't love.
Meanwhile, your boss may get upset that you aren't grateful for the efforts to help you and could resent your attitude -- especially if you say you don't want the extra work anymore and will just stick with the job you said wasn't working for you in the first place. I guarantee she'll assume you are looking to leave and will no longer want to invest time and energy into your professional development.
If you can work through the phase where you loathe the repetitive, unexciting nature of your job and recognize that the skills and experience you are acquiring are enabling you to do a good job without a lot of pressure or stress, perhaps you'll finally give your job a break and stop expecting so much from it. Your work is not always going to make you feel amazing and wonderful.
In times when you aren't "feeling the love," try to appreciate your job for what it does give you: a steady paycheck, benefits, a place to learn and build your skill sets so you'll always be employable, or the opportunity to build professional friendships that could help in the future. You could end up feeling a lot better about work in general.
Now that you understand how work is like peanut butter, why not take a peanut butter sandwich to your job tomorrow and be grateful for what they both provide -- sustenance.

So I thought...well you know, I may as well check it out for a while...WELL...let me tell you...i am getting hammered with gifts and requests....Thanksgiving Gift request, Christmas decoration gift request, Snowman request, plant gift request, a birthday request...and apparently I OWN A FARM!!! I'm growing tomatoes... in case you're wondering...The problem is I don't know what to do with all these things!! So if you sent one...sorry...don't know what to do!! HELP!!!! I'm Facebook challenged!!

One very positive thing came out of my whole facebook experiment...I have found one of my very best friends from high school...he was also my prom date in junior and senior year...but anyways...we have been emailing and I am so grateful for that...but seriously...if you can help out with the mechanics of facebook...email me...REALLY!!!!

More On Twilight

So, I did it...I got the Twilight Series. I had a reality check when my 16 year old step-daughter Chelsea came to visit this weekend...and her and I ARE READING THE SAME BOOK!! I'm twice her age!! Grrrr...late bloomer on my part I guess...

I started the book Saturday afternoon...I'm already half way through it. Poor Spouse Greg....my nose was in a book all weekend. My only defense is...IT'S A REALLY GREAT BOOK!!!

I don't know how I missed this...being an HBO "True Blood" addict...I can't believer it's taken this long. Go get it!! Read the book!! Stop what you are doing and get it!! I guarantee that by the time Christmas rolls around you'll have finished all four in the series...or you'll be asking Santa for the rest of the series!!

Twilight Series

So I was introduced to the Stephenie Meyer "Twilight Series" yesterday...I had no idea!! Am I that much out of the loop?? Apparently...these books are the hottest rage right now...aimed directly at 17 year old girls and 30 something women...okay maybe not the thirty somethings...but still...
There's also a movie in the works. Now I've seen the trailer for the movie and either I was sleeping or talking to my friend in the theater because for some reason, I didn't get that it was about vampires...watching the trailer now...the trailer clearly states that it's about vampires...Out of the loop AGAIN!!

I am admittedly addicted to the new HBO series "True Blood"...much to Spouse Greg's dismay (He doesn't get it)...and it seems to have the same premise of these books...sexy vampire...Innocent girl...and true love!! But did you ever notice that the "Vampire thing" comes around every few years...we love them...read about them (Anne Rice)...make movies about them (Brad Pitt - Tom Cruise)...and then move on to something else...only to have them resurface in force a few years later!

So here's my question...do you have children that are "into" the Twilight Series?? Have YOU read them?? And...WHY DIDN'T I KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?!?!?!

Please tell me I'm not the only one....

The Secret Life of Bees

Last night I had the opportunity to preview "The Secret Life of Bees" at the Cinemark Theaters on Powers...and can I just say...WOW! I think this could possibly be one of the best movies I have ever watched. Now, I may be a little biased because I loved the book...if you haven't read it...go get it now and read it...and when to movie comes out...GO SEE IT. But take some tissue. I was sitting next to a friend of mine and all I could think was "Don't cry...don't cry..."...it didn't work. I bawled like a baby! Luckily my friend understood and I think I may have even witnessed a tear from him too!

I will say this, when you see the movie...look at Dakota Fanning...she is very scary skinny. I know she's a lanky awkward teenager...but come on...eat a cheeseburger or something!

At any rate...just my two cents...go see the movie...read the book...you won't be disappointed...I promise!

This is officially my very first "blog"...I am admittedly "technically challenged". If it doesn't work when I hit 'power' I freak out...so beware...freak out are sure to come.

I had a flat tire Monday night...how does that happen?...driving along...heard a weird hissing...and when I pulled into my driveway...there it was hissing away and rapidly going flat. So I did what any girl would do...yelled for my husband, Spouse Greg, to come and fix it. I can't and won't fix it because I could potentially get dirty and I don't like to get dirty. I have to admit I was a little hesitant to call Spouse Greg because he's not really the "tire changing" type...so I asked him..."Do you even know HOW to change a tire"...he looked at me like I was crazy, and I'm not kidding...replied with, "Of course I know how to change a tire...I watch NASCAR"...Nice!

I'm happy to report that my tire is still flat, but the truck is rollin' around on the spare...it looks terrible but YEA! I'm married to the "tire changer" type after all!!!
